WHAT TYPE OF PARROT WOULD YOU CHOOSE?

WHAT TYPE OF PARROT WOULD YOU CHOOSE?

Though each parrot is an individual, with their own idiosyncrasies and quirks that make them WHO they are, the different types also tend to have personality tendencies that shape WHAT they are.  For example, cockatoos will behave and interact differently than Amazon parrots.  Military macaws will behave differently than scarlet macaws.  Blue head Pionus parrots have a different temperment than blue head conures or blue crown Amazon parrots.

The Pittsburgh affiliate of Parrot Education & Adoption Center (PEAC) is presenting a class on, “PARROT PERSONALITIES” on Saturday May 19, 2012, at 11:30 AM.  This will be followed at 1:00 PM by a round table discussion, “LET’S TALK ABOUT YOUR PARROT’S PERSONALITY”, in which attendees will be encouraged to participate, discuss their birds, and ask questions.

This is one of the required classes to adopt a bird from, or foster a bird for, PEAC.

LOCATION:  Pleasant Hills Public Library…..302 Old Clairton Road, Pittsburgh PA 15236…..412-655-2424 http://www.pleasanthillslibrary.org/     This is located several stop signs from the cloverleaf intersection of RT 51 S and Lebanon Church Road

ADMISSION:  The class is free to members of any of the affiliates of PEAC.  Admission is $10.00 to non-members.  Membership in PEAC is very inexpensive…why not join?    The discussion, at 1:00 PM, is free to everybody.  Please come and join us.

2 Parrot Events on Sunday, April 29 at the Norwin Library

Resolving Biting Behavior, Using Positive Reinforcement

Many people are vexed by their parrots biting, and simply do not know what to do about this aspect of parrot behavior.  Other people have no problems with this.  Maybe the second group knows something special!!!

The Pittsburgh affiliate of Parrot Education & Adoption Center (PEAC) is presenting a class on, “RESOLVING BITING BEHAVIOR, USING POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT” on Sunday April 29, 2012, at 1:30 PM, at The Norwin Public Library.

This class will be taught by Scott Reichert, Director of the Pittsburgh affiliate of PEAC.  Mr. Reichert is  extensively experienced with the techniques he will be discussing and has taught this class numerous times in the past.  As he interacts with absolutely all of the birds that come into our adoption program, he is constantly using them with new birds, refining and improving, even more, his proficiency with this discipline.  We are lucky that he is available to share his knowledge and experience with us.  It is unusual to find someone who is constantly interacting to make friends, with such a variety of new birds, on the scale that Mr Reichert does.

This class is one of the required classes to adopt or foster a bird from the Pittsburgh affiliate of Parrot Education & Adoption Center.

ASK AN AVIAN VET

For several decades, Dr. Robert Wagner, DVM has been among the foremost, go-to veterinarians with extensive expertise in avian issues, in the Western Pennsylvania area.  His vast experience with exotic animals has included time as a veterinarian at The Pittsburgh Zoo, National Aviary at Pittsburgh, assistant professor in two different medical departments at The University of Pittsburgh, and seeing patients at VCA Fox Chapel Animal Hospital, near Pittsburgh, PA.  We are thrilled to have him available to discuss avian medical issues and answer your questions at this event.

The Pittsburgh affiliate of Parrot Education & Adoption Center is very proud to present an informal discussion with Dr. Wagner, “ASK AN AVIAN VET”, on Sunday April 29, 2012, at 3:00 PM, at The Norwin Public Library.  It is expected to conclude at approximately 4:00 PM.
