** ACT TODAY TO SAVE MONEY ON SATURDAY **

ATTEND A BASIC PARROT CARE CLASS AT THE NATIONAL AVIARY AND SAVE $5.00 IF YOU PREREGISTER TODAY.

ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2012,  AT 1:00 PM,   THE PITTSBURGH AFFILIATE OF THE PARROT EDUCATION AND ADOPTION CENTER (PEAC), IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NATIONAL AVIARY IN PITTSBURGH, WILL PRESENT A CLASS ON BASIC PARROT CARE, BEHAVIOR, AND AN INTRODUCTION TO TRAINING TECHNIQUES.

If you have seen information, in the past, on the classes presented by the partnership between PEAC and the Aviary, you might be happy, to see the new lower pricing and different start times. If you preregister on or before Wednesday, Febuary 22, there is an additional discount.   PEAC members, who register on or before Wednesday, February 22, 2012 would receive a reduction of 25% from the $20.00 day of event price ($15.00).  Non members would pay $18.  After 2/22/2012, the cost would be $17.00 for PEAC members and $20.00 for non members.   You can preregister here:  http://www.pitpeac.org/popregister.php?id=58

If you are not a member of PEAC, would you consider the benefits of joining, as members receive discounts through the year, on classes and events of interest to people interested in parrots, and parrot keeping.

A 1 year membership in the Pittsburgh affiliate of the Parrot Education and Adoption Center costs $20.00 for an individual and $30.00 for a family.  A family of 2 who joins, prior to or at, this event would recover 20% of their membership cost on this class alone…..and there is a class, more dedicated to training, taught by one of the world’s formost bird trainers, that will be presented on March 11, where the discount could be applied again.

IF CATHY SCHLOTT PRESENTS THIS CLASS (as I believe she is scheduled), it will be her first class after appearing on The David Letterman Show (with Jungle Jack Hannah from the Columbus Zoo), Good Morning America, and possibly Martha Stewart’s Show. She might have some interesting stories.

The National Aviary at Pittsburgh (America’s Bird Zoo) is known worldwide for it’s collection of birds and it’s trained bird shows.

The Parrot Education and Adoption Center was established in San Diego, California in 1996 to promote education on topics related to the keeping of parrot type birds and to facilitate the rehoming of parrots who have lost their homes, into qualified new homes, where they will receive proper care. It has affiliates in several states.   The Pittsburgh affiliate was established in 1998 and is staffed entirely by volunteers.  The Internal Revenue Service considers PEAC to be a public charity under code section 501(c)3, so there could be possible tax incentives to donate to or participate in it.

There are other classes and events being scheduled through the year.  You can see a partial list of the 2012 offerings here: http://www.pitpeac.org/seminars2.php .

“Penguins in Peril” – presented by Steve Sarro

Presenting the worlds leading authority on African Penguin conservation, Steve Sarro, right here in your backyard…

Held at: The National Aviary on Saturday, February 18th at 3:00 pm (come early to enjoy the other exhibits)

What do Penguins and Parrots have in common?  More than just one letter?  …More thank you might think, in fact!  Both are birds.  Both are threatened with extinction in nature and both can be found aplenty here in Pittsburgh at our National Aviary.  PEAC is fortunate to have a partnership with the National Aviary.  Steve Sarro, the Director of Animal Husbandry (formerly the Director of Animal Programs) is the worldwide expert on African Penguins.  He is also a member of PEAC’s Board of Directors.  Steve has agreed present a unique insight into the challenges to survival these birds face in nature.

So come on in and join us in a slight departure from our normal venue; enjoy a day at “The Nation’s Premier Bird Zoo” where you will witness over 600 birds, 200 different species of which you can participate in feeding, witness them fly over your head in the new indoor bird show, and hear a great talk about those tuxedoed cuties.  You may even get an up close encounter.  You will also have an opportunity to learn about PEAC’s educational opportunities, as well as our adoptable birds.

We are able to present Steve’s expertise to you for free with paid admission to the aviary.  Please pre-register at this link PRE-REGISTRATION so we can be ready for you.  Also we highly recommend you check out the National Aviary’s website by clicking here.

Looking forward to seeing you.

True Parrots and other hookbill birds, such as Macaws, Cockatoos, Conures, Lories, Parakeets, Cockatiels, Lovebirds, and others are intelligent beings who need adequate intellectual stimulation to be successful companions and to maintain their health. PEAC has affiliated chapters in several states.
